Presentation Title: Niobium for Next Generation Cathode: Disordered Rock Salt Oxides (DRX)

Abstract:

Wildcat employs advanced high-throughput synthesis and testing platforms to rapidly explore hundreds of materials in parallel, integrating them into customized battery cells. By partnering with global leaders across the battery industry, Wildcat ensures the alignment and integration of all elements within the battery cell for optimal performance. Over the past 17 years, Wildcat has successfully completed more than 250 battery projects, including approximately 100 cathode projects with worldwide customers.
This presentation begins with an overview of the projected supply and market dynamics concerning cathodes. The central focus is on the value proposition of Disordered Rock Salt Oxides (DRX) cathode materials and the role of niobium (Nb) in achieving superior performance in DRX cells. Compared to high-energy cathode NMC811, DRX is cobalt-free and nickel-free, offering even higher energy density and enhanced safety. Wildcat's DRX is a manganese-rich and niobium-containing oxide, where niobium plays a crucial role in the structure. Since 2015, with great support from CBMM, Wildcat has continuously worked on the development of disordered rock salt oxides (DRX) cathode materials.

Bio:

Dr. Bin Li serves as the Senior Vice President of Product Development at Wildcat Discovery Technologies. Since joining the company in 2007, Dr. Li has co-developed a globally unique high-throughput platform for hydrogen storage and battery materials research. At Wildcat, Dr. Li leads multiple research teams focused on the development of various battery materials, including cathode materials, anode materials, solid-state batteries, and lithium-metal batteries. Over the past 16 years, Dr. Li has led more than 120 battery research projects involving 27 different cathode chemistries. Since 2015, Dr. Li has continuously worked on the development of disordered rock salt oxides (DRX) cathode materials.
