Presentation Title: Rapid Chargeable 3V-Class Niobium-Based Oxide Anode Battery With High-Voltage and Co-Free Cathode Material

Abstract:

We have developed a 3V-class Niobium-based oxide anode battery with high working-voltage, and rapid chargeability using high-potential and Cobalt-free cathode material. Oxide anode batteries are well-known for their high safety and long-life, allowing rapid charging But their low working voltage, limited their applications. To address this issue, we focused on lithium nickel manganese oxide (LNMO) as the cathode material. This material have unique features to have 5 V high potential and Co free resource conservation characteristics. However, the issue of battery swelling due to gas generation during charging was challenging issues. By focusing on the gas generation mechanism, we improved the battery components and significantly reduced gas generation by suppressing the dissolution of transition metals from the cathode. When combined with a niobium-titanium oxide (NTO) anode, gas generation was reduced to 1/1000 compared to the conventional approach. Additionally, the battery shows an output voltage of 3.2V, 80% rapid charge performance in 5 minutes, and a capacity retention rate of 90% even after 10,000 cycles without battery swelling. This battery can be applied to a wide range of applications, including industrial applications that require compact size and high voltage with higher performance.
